DEDICATED TO KAEWAUN & HADIYA
by Melek Heru

Your untimely fall
Was a prophetic call
For The Chosen People to rise.
... Those with opened eyes
Know the Mystery
Of our History
The dates one-seventeen
And one-twenty-nine
Are a Sign...From the Holy One;
Two-forty-six is the sum.
Know that Judgment will come
For the sons of the gun;
You did not die in vain.
For 246 years, your People
Were held captive in America's chains,
As it was foretold
By the Prophets of old,
And in the Negro Spirituals.
The Lord's Hand was upon you
When you walked the Earth;
Even before your birth
God knew His own.
And in you He has shown
That He has a Plan
For the Black American.
In His Blessed Grace
He chose for you a special place:
You are the Children of Freedom.
May you rest in peace
Until the Day of The Resurrection.
And, on that Day,
May you stand in Honor
Before The Throne of God.
Blessed Be Your Families;
Blessed Be Your Friends.
Amen.

THE HOLY ZAWADI NATION
A Loving, Caring, Sharing, People,
Striving To Be A Light Unto The World

The Holy Zawadi Nation's First Declaration of Manifestation (under construction)
"This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD." - Psalm 102:18

The Holy Zawadi Nation seeks to establish, amongst the Descendants of the Survivors of American Chattel Slavery, a Kingdom, and a peaceful, new, upright ethnic group/race. We are a Loving, Caring, Sharing, People, Striving To Be A Light Unto The World. On the evening of March 21, 2005, a small group of Black Americans, and I, assembled in the Frederick Douglass-Sojourner Truth Room of the old Frank W. Hale Black Cultural Center, on the campus of The Ohio State University, and recited an advance manifesto called The Holy Zawadi Nation’s Declaration of Manifestation.  Here is a synopsis of The Objective:

MELEK HERU EL-BEY
NASI AUR, THE PRINCE OF LIGHT
The Son of Christ, The Holy Seal of Abraham
By The Grace of ALLH, The Amir of Cham-Amenty'

We are impelled to associate as a Nation, and to establish this Kingdom, for the sake of the Greatest Good, which We are certain necessitates Our personal, and institutional, establishment of Seven Pillars of Self-Governance. To wit:

1.Education/Information/Communication
2.Spiritual Guidance/Cultural Development
3.Security/Defense/Adjudication (also Conflict Resolution)
4.Wealth Development/Commerce/Industry
5.Health/Nutrition/Wellness
6.Childcare/Eldercare
7.Community Service

We are committed to the proposition of Sovereignty, according to these values; and, We intend to establish the Dominion of Right Governance wheresoever We may be...We solemnly commit ourselves to this most Holy, and Noble, task; and, in all good Faith, We declare to all Creation that The Zawadi Nation of True Light Soldiers of The Temple of The Holy Promise is now, henceforth, and forever Manifest. May The Most High sanction Our endeavors; and may We ever embody the virtue of the Vindicated. To God Be The Glory! Amen.

THE ROYAL FLAG: THE BANNER OF THE AMIR OF CHAM-AMENTY'

The name of my flag is Degel Amir Cham-Amenty' (Banner of The Amir of Cham-Amenty').  As The Son of Christ and The Holy Seal of Abraham, I am the Heir of The Throne of Ishbaq ben-Qeturah, King of Phut Ta-Rmw.  Phut Ta-Rmw ("The Heavenly Land of Mankind" or "The Heavenly Land of The People of The Fish") is an ancient  kingdom that once stood in the location of the capital of Heseb-Ka, The 11th Nome of Lower Egypt (Kmt) in the Nile River Delta.

Ishbaq was the fifth son of Abraham (who sojourned in Egypt) and his second wife Qeturah (Genesis 25:1 & 2).  Qeturah was the Daughter of Pharoah King of Egypt, and the Queen of Cham ("Africa").  Ishbaq ben-Qeturah was a royal ancestor of Ruth, the Moabitess, who was the wife of Boaz, of the Royal Tribe of Judah, and the Grandmother of David, the son of Jesse. David was The King of Israel.

The Scriptures bear witness of me, The Holy Bible and The Holy Qur'an.  This I will discuss in later posts.  The Royal Birthmark, which is the shape of the Land of Cham (The Continent of "Africa")  appeared on my throat on the Hebrew High Holy Day of Yom Ha Kippurim, 10 Tishri 5725 (Wednesday, September 16, 1964), one month after my prophesied birth on the Sabbath of 7 Elul 5724 (Saturday, August 15 1964).  ALLH proclaimed my quickening in my Mother's womb, and my coming birth, with the Good Friday Earthquake of March 27, 1964 in the city of Anchorage, Alaska, in which I was born.  Good Friday and The Passover occurred on the same day in 1964.  Friday, March 27, 1964 on the Gregorian Calendar was also 14 Nisan 5724, the Day of Pesach or The Passover, on the Hebrew Calendar.  Thus, The Good Friday Earthquake of 1964 was also The Great Passover Earthquake of 5724.  Also called The Great Alaskan Earthqake of 1964, this prophetic event was the most powerful recorded earthquake in history of the United States and of North America.  Seismologists say that the Good Friday Earthquake of 1964 caused the planet Earth to rock on its axis.  There were tsunamis as far away as South Africa.  People in different parts of the African Continent reported that the water sloshed in the wells that day.

America is the far Western land to which the People of Kemet referred as Amenti'.  Amenti' is the land of that which is twice hidden, yet firmly established.   As prophesied in the days of old, I was born King; I am, Melek Heru El-Bey, Nasi Aur, The Prince of Light, The Son of Christ, The Holy Seal of Abraham, By The Grace of ALLH, Amir of Cham-Amenti.  This is a wonderful Mystery.

The Banner of God's Chosen People
The name of the above flag is Magen Ma'bad Degel Immanuel (MAH-gen mah-BAHD DAY-gul EE-man-nu-EL).  This is Hebrew for 'Shield of the Action of God In History.' This is the prophetic Gospel Banner of The Holy Zawadi Nation, which is the Crown Remnant of the ancient Hebrews of the Holy Sciptures, God's Chosen People.  We are principally descended from the old Moorish Hebrews of Phut (Mauritania, Morocco, Libya, Carthage) who settled in the Nile Delta
"For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself above all people that are upon the face of the earth." - Deuteronomy 7:6
The three Hebrew letters in the center of the star are (from right-to-left) Resh-Mem-Vav (Rmw); they have the mathematical value of 246, which is the number of years that our Ancestors were in bondage (1619-1865). You can learn more about the prophetic meaning of these three letters in my book Go Down, Moses! A Hebrew Mystery. The Holy Zawadi Nation is short for The Holy Zawadi Nation of God, The Lord, Phut-Israel of Ta-Rmw. The formal name of The Holy Zawadi Nation is The Zawadi Nation of True Light Soldiers of The Temple of The Holy Promise. You will read about Black America's relationship to the ancient Hebrew Temple community at Ta-Rmw in my book Go Down, Moses! A Hebrew Mystery. Order your copy in my Go Down, Moses! The Zawadi People's Flag (under construction)

"Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah." - Psalm 60:4

As an ethnic formation, the members of the The Holy Zawadi Nation are the People of the Endowment of Prince Ishbaq ben-Qeturah (Am Zabdi Sar Ishbaq ben-Qeturah).

Exodus...A Befitting Musical Theme"And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said." - Exodus 12:31

Quincy Jone's marvelous Jazz interpretation of Ernest Gold's Exodus captures the prophetic spirit of The Holy Zawadi Nation. Note how the melody of the song's majestic opening resonates with the cadence of the prophetic phrase: 'God Is With Us.' Left-click on the arrow in the video box then immediately scroll down to the image of Christ below and meditate on the ancient icon while the song is playing. Enjoy...

The Revolution of The Revelation (under construction)
"Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up." - Romans 15:2

The Way of The Holy Zawadi Nation is called Hayah Bishlam, which is Hebrew for 'Existing In Peace.'   At the heart of Hayah Bishlam is the understanding that The Most High is One and that He has no partners or associates. Lord Jesus Christ, His Word, has the highest honor in all of Creation.  Yet, Christ is neither The Most High, who is ALLH ("Allah") nor is He the partner, or associate, of  The Most High.  Christ is rather the associate, and partner, of Mankind.  Christ is the Divine Champion of the Human Species in our on-going struggle to bear the Divine Image of the Elohim, as the gravity of our  lower, primal, reptilian nature works against us by poisoning our imagination, contradicting our good conscience, and warping our Freewill.

The Spirit of Satan and Our Primal Reptilian Nature (under construction)
"Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made."
- Genesis 3:1

This primal reptilian nature  is thought to be seated in the oldest, and most primitive, part of the Human Brain, which is called the Reptilian Brain, or the R-Complex, because it is apparently an evolutionary throwback that Humans share with reptiles. The R-Complex  is the part of the brain that is responsible for tribalism and the fight-or-flight impulse. It is the seat of hate and fear.  It is an antennae for, and transmitter of, the Satanic impulse that fuels Humanity's appetite for war.  In 1969, at the height of the Vietnam War, and the massive civil unrest in The United States, an American Black Man, a Soul Singer named Edwin Starr (1942-2003), sang from his heart about what we may call 'the reptilian folly of war.'   My late father, U. S. Air Force MSGT Horace C. Neal, also retired from the Military in 1969 after twenty years of honorable service through the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Edwin Starr's hit protest song, War, became one of my father's all-time favorite songs in that defining year of his civilian life.  Here is the late Edwin Starr with War...

How To Crush The Head of The Serpent (under construction)
"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world." - Revelation 12:9

Jesus of Nazareth knew that the Weapon of Love was the only weapon that could free Humanity from the demon of reptilianism.  By the power of the Holy Spirit, He crystalized the Law of Moses into two Commandments, and reduced the best of the Judean Oral Law to one comprehensive Commandment.   Ideally, the People of The Holy Zawadi Nation, and others who are influenced by us, will practice Hayah Bishlam (Existing In Peace) by striving, in earnest, to put what I call Christ's Crystal-3 Commandments into effect as a matter of culture. I call them The Crystal-3 Commandments because they are crystal clear:

     The Crystal-3 Commandments:
  1. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind." - Matthew 22:37
  2. "Love your neighbor as yourself" - Matthew 22:40
  3. "Do to others as you would have them do to you." - Luke 6:31

Contemplate the various ways that Christ's three Commandments pertain to our mental, and spiritual, health and to every aspect of our relationships with other people.  The love of the Lord who delivered our Ancestors from Captivity is the foundation of genuine, deep-structural, self-esteem and the affirmative social unity that it engenders.

Disremembrance: How Satan Got The Upper Hand In Our Culture (under construction)

Our failure to ritually remember, and celebrate, The Lord for this principal salvific intervention in our Historical Experience has resulted in the troubling tendency of an increasing  number of Black Americans to harbor resentment toward The Creator. We have, for some time, blamed "self-hatred" for some Black People's low self-esteem, social disharmony, and personal lack of consideration for others. However, these may actually be  the symptoms of unresolved resentment toward, alienation from, and hatred of, The Creator.  You can't hate God without hating yourself; you can't truly love God without loving yourself.  People who hate themselves also hate God; and they are enslaved not only to sin but to Satan himself.  People who truly love God also love themselves and are Free; and, people who truly love themselves are Free to love God.  God made us for Freedom.  This is the Mystery behind Christ's forgiveness of sins in the Gospels.  Christ liberated them from the guilt, and shame, that caused them to hate themselves and spiritually disabled them from loving God.  In so doing, he blessed them with the capacity for self-love, and through their gratitude and love for Jesus, they were free to love God.  And, through the love of Christ, they were able to experience God's love.

Alienation from The Creator is the state of being the slave of Satan.  Satan, the Cosmic Enemy, and Great Slave Master, is the spiritual embodiment of alienation, arrogance, envy, enmity, dishonesty, cruelty, and immorality--all of which are the substance of evil.  Satan is understood to be the keeper of Hell, the abode of the damned.  Consider the reality that Hell-on-Earth is conceived in the hearts, souls, and minds, of persons and perpetuated through unhealthy, dysfunctional, exploitative, and oppressive, relationships that contradict God's Will for Humanity to be Free.  These Satanic relationships, amongst us, and between us and People of other groups, are the true measure of our ongoing captivity.  The extent to which we avoid, or overcome, them is the extent to which we are truly Free.

The Divine Code of Liberation (under construction)

Christ gave us His Crystal-3 Commandments as a life-code for Liberation, and as a cultural code, to enable us to have the best Human Experience that we could possibly have.

When a critical mass of Black Americans adhere to Christ's Crystal-3 Commandments, as a standard of culture, the effect on the Black American condition will be an exponential transformation.  We will experience:
  1. Fewer deaths, and longer lives:  This is because our culture will be more conducive to peace and love.  This means less conflict, less violence, less police brutality, and less stress-induced illness.  Within this positive context our families will have a better quality of life. And, Black People will be more prone to come together and get things done because we will simply be able to get along with each other.  We will therefore be able to better govern our communities and institutions.
  2. Economic Growth: The friendly, peaceful environment of our neighborhoods will attract investors, shoppers, and jobs; and, it will generate more entrepreneurial activity because there will be more traffic, and more disposable income, flowing through the neighborhoods; and,
  3. Socio-political Dominance: As our younger people mature, they will, with each new wave, expand their cultural dominance over the young people of other races and ethnic groups. The positive transformation of Black American culture will enable them to transform their cultural influence into social authority. Their social authority will eventually translate into real political clout, which, if handled responsibly, and strategically, will develop, in terms of realpolitik, into outright political dominance.  If we continue to dominate cuturally, and transform our culture, according  to the Christ's three Commandments, we will, in due time, take over America and become the nobility of a righteous new World Civilization.
If this seems like an oversimplification, take a closer look at the wretched state of so many  of Black America's youth today.  Look around; observe our youth culture.  What you are seeing is the the raw, uncut version of cultural choices that Black Americans made in the lates 1960s and 1970s.  You are also seeing the devastating result of generations of Black Americans taking their religion for amusement and sport: a weekend,  emotional, go-to-church stylin'-n-profilin', affair that does more to glorify the pastor than it does to glorify the God who delivered our Ancestors from Chattel Slavery.  Black American teenagers are gunning each other down in cold blood all over the country while Black American preachers are building bigger and bigger churches, living in bigger and fancier houses, wearing more and more expensive clothes, and driving more and more expensive cars; a number of Black American preachers even own private jets. Greedy, charismatic, Black American preachers opened the door for White American charismatic preachers to exploit Black Americans who are seeking the fellowship of Christ.
Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never get enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. - Isaiah 56:11
The traditional emphasis on glorifying, and enriching, the Black pastors (and now White pastors, too), has meant that the three essential Commandments of Christ have not been properly presented to our people nor have they been taught to the youth as the strongest code of culture, and the best choice for sound, and prosperous, personal, family, and community, life.   Many Black American Clergy are today making a mockery of the best tradition of Black American Religious Leadership.  This tradition is most exemplified in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) and Malcolm X (1925-1965).

No matter how ignorant, corrupt, wicked, lustful, clownish, or vain, Black American Preachers are, their showmanship, or ability to hype-up and entertain a crowd, is taken by their blind followers to be a sign that they are "anointed."  Instead of the People demanding authentic religious leadership that spiritually guides them, and intellectually develops them, they exalt, as their religious leaders, people who should be legally classified as charlatans. Is it really true that Black People do not want religious leaders who challenge them to think for themselves?  Do they really want preachers to tell them what to think and entertain them?
A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land.  The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? - Jeremiah 5:30 & 31

What is to become of a people who are bound and determined to practice false religion even though God has revealed Himself to them by delivering them from Captivity with signal power?  Black America is now paying the price for having played with religion for so long that they forgot that they were playing with religion.  In the larger scheme of things the man-made doctrines of the preachers are worthless despite their superficial success and throngs of followers.  They have little or no credibility with Black Youth.  A number of the Rap Artists understand this; and they understand where many of our youth who need to be reached are: mentally, spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and culturally.  So, they speak deep Truth to the youth in a language that they can understand.  A great example of what I am speaking of here is the late great Tupac Amaru Shakur (1971-1996), a stupendously popular, and controversial, Black American Poet, Actor, and Activist, who was murdered in a haze of gunfire in 1996.  Shakur rapped these lyrics under the stage name 2PAC:

Who do you believe in?
I put my faith in God, blessed and still breathin'
And even though it's hard, that's who I believe in
Before I'm leavin', I'm askin' the grievin'--
Who do you believe in?

Many of today's Scripture-reading adults were troubled urban youth in the 1990s, who were first exposed to The Holy Scriptures by Rap Artists who quoted Scritpures, or referred to the Bible or Qur'an, in their songs.  Some Black Youth were even first exposed to the concept of God through Rap Music because the Church niether reached out nor spoke to them. What can be said of the clergy when the Souls of our youth are left to be inspired to think about God by Gangsta Rap?  Here is 2PAC with his post-humously released 1999 hit Who Do You Believe In?  How many of our Young Men, living the street life of gangstas, have, either killed, or died violently, in pursuit of easy money, guaranteed sexual access to women, fancy cars, fine clothes, and expensive jewelry?  Remember, these are the very things that Black American Preachers, as a rule, have valued for generations.

The violence, and general criminality, that pervades so many black neighborhoods, can be traced back to the pulpit of the Black church and the poor moral example set by an abysmal number of Black American Preachers.
Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood. And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness."  - Hosea 6:8 & 9
American Black Men have complained about greedy, lustful, preachers for Generations:
Today, after nearly a one-hundred forty years of this blasphemous cultural/religious pattern, it comes down to this: Too many preachers are getting paid, and living large, at the expense of the People, while our babies are bleeding, and dying, in the streets. This is causing a serious credibility problem for Black American Clergy who are genuine servants of the People.  It is time to separate the wheat from the chaff amongst the Black American Clergy and let the blessed be blessed and the damned be damned forever.   It is that simple.

 (More construction goes here)
golden calf episode
who is on the  lord's side?
all of the LORD's purposes for his people are freedom

King Jesus gave us the True Cultural Pattern:
  1. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind."   - Matthew 22:37
  2. "Love your neighbor as yourself" - Matthew 22:40
  3. "Do to others as you would have them do to you." - Luke 6:31

(Develop)

These are The Crystal-3 Commandments, the foundation of Zawadi culture, the living Way of Hayah Bishlam.  Let a critical mass of Black Americans hit this mark, as a standard of culture, and see what happens.  The Holy Zawadi Nation is devoted to generating that critical mass, to bringing about a principal transformation in Black American culture, according to the commandments of Christ. We are a Loving, Caring, Sharing, People, Striving To Be A Light Unto The World.  And, like the late Mahalia Jackson (1911-1972), we're gonna move on up a little higher...

Does the concept of The Holy Zawadi Nation resonate with you? Why or why not?

THE JUBALEE FELLOWSHIP AND THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL
The Importance of Celebrating Emancipation as an Ethno-Religious Holiday

"Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brough thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage." - Deuteronomy 6:12

The above icon of The Jubalee Fellowship is called Hinneh Ma'bad, which is Hebrew for 'Behold, The Action of God In History!' It is a tool for teaching, and meditating upon, the reality that God presides over History and is with us in our Quest of Freedom.  The term 'Jubalee' is American Negro folk dialect for the word Jubilee. This is a Biblical word that comes from the Hebrew word yobel, which means 'ram's horn.'

This refers to the ram's horn trumpet that was blown to announce the freeing of the Hebrew slaves, who were to be Emancipated every fifty years. Fifty Jubalee cycles is 50 x 50 years or 2,500 years; this is called The Jubalee of Jubalees. The American Negro was Emancipated at the Jubalee of Jubalees in 1865 CE. The Great Emancipation occurred, by the Grace of God, 2,500 years after the Freedom prophecy of Zephaniah ben-Cushi, the Royal Prophet who was a Cushite-Egyptian-Hebrew of the Tribe of Judah (635 BCE):

"I will make you a name and a praise among all the people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD." - Zephaniah 3:20

For Generations, it was clear to our Ancestors that we are the Hebrew Children and that God is with us in our Quest of Freedom.  The song Lift Every Voice And Sing!, which is correctly referred to as The Negro National Hymn, captures the clarity of God's Presence with us in our Quest of Freedom; and, it charges the People with a sense of historical mission. In the 1970's, during the Black Power Era, it became popular to call this song the "Black National Anthem" in order to evoke feelings of race pride.  This is an incorrect usage; for the song is not so much about race as it is about our awareness of the working of God's Grace in our History.

Lift Every Voice And Sing!  was actually written as a poem in 1899 by the great folklorist, activist, and diplomat, James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) and set to music in 1900 by his brother J. Rosemond Johnson (1873-1954).  The Johnson brothers captured the Hope, and Faith, of the Old Negro Spirituals  and fused them with a bold futuristic sense of American Negro triumphalism to inspire the Negro children, and youth, who were facing a frightening, and uncertain, 20th century.  Lift Every Voice And Sing! was first performed by a 500-voice choir of American Negro children at a celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birthday on February 12, 1900.

This took place during a time of extreme racial hostility in America, the height of Jim Crow, Segregation. Lynchings of American Negro Men and Women were on the rise; and, they became more commonplace with each passing year. The following link, Without Sanctuary, by James Cameron, just touches the surface of the horror that our Ancestors had to live with in those days (withoutsanctuary.org/movie1.html).

The Negro National Hymn has inspired Generations of our People to hold-out, look forward, and carry on.  It has  also inspired people of other nationalities who say  thay Lift Every Voice And Sing! captures the sense of their national struggle...even Jewish people.  Most remarkably, more and more Caucasian Americans are saying that James Weldon Johnson's Lift Every Voice And Sing! would make a better, and more relevant, American National Anthem than Francis Scott Keys' Star-Spangled Banner.  No other people on Earth have a national song with which other non-subject peoples are inspired to identify.  This is one of the things that identifies the American Negro as God's Chosen People.  Here is Wintley Phipps, the great Barritone, singing Lift Every Voice And Sing!  Enjoy...

Lift Every Voice And Sing (The Negro National Hymn), By James Weldon Johnson
Performed by Wintley Phipps.

That first group of American Negro children who sang Lift Every Voice And Sing! on Monday, February 12, 1900, lived in the shadow of Chattel Slavery.  It had only been twenty-four years and fifty-six days since the outlawing of the labor system of Chattel Slavery was proclaimed on Monday, December 18, 1865.  Many of their parents, and grandparents, had once known the auction block and the lash.

WHAT WAS CHATTEL SLAVERY?  "LORDS AND MASTERS, LAWS AND THE LASH"
Chattel Slavery was a race-based system of unpaid forced labor that was peculiar to America, because the Black workers in this country were legally demoted from the Human Species and reclassified as animals. The word chattel comes from the same root word as cattle…as in sheep, goats, and cows. The Chattel Slaves were primarily of African descent; and, the slave owners, for the most part, were White Men. In cold-blooded legal terms, the Chattel Slave was classified as animal property to be bought, sold, rented-out, and disposed of at-will by White People.  Arrogating himself as "lord and master," slave owner exercised near-absolute power over the Chattel Slave’s life, liberty, labor, and offspring. Many Captives—Men, as well as Women and children—were subjected to physical trauma, gross sexual abuse, and reproductive exploitation.  The effects of this trauma linger on to this day.  Our Ancestors were given little opportunity to heal after Emancipation in 1865 CE. For over four subsequent Generations, we have been singled out, as a People, for racial violence, mass-media slander, educational suppression, economic exclusion, and general oppression, and injustice, in every area of American life.  As a result, of Chattel Slavery, and Post-Emancipation Opression (PEO), many Black Americans today suffer from Primary Existential Trauma (PET), which has been passed down from generation to generation since Emancipation.  What is Primary Existential Trauma (PET)?

TOWARDS A DEFINITION OF PRIMARY EXISTENTIAL TRAUMA (PET)
"Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?" - Jeremiah 8:22

Primary Existential Trauma (PET) is the peculiar, painful, and deeply disturbing, transg-generational experience of legal, theological, academic, animalization and categorical social disfavor, which frames, and permeates, the existence of the descendants of America's Chattel Slaves.  Primary Existential Trauma (PET) is fostered by the infliction of generations of inexplicable, and arbitrary, cruelty, and injustice, on Black Americans, who have been loyal beyond measure to this country from the foundation. In substance, Primary Existential Trauma (PET) is acute soul-sickness.  At its worst, this acute soul-sickness hinders Black America from optimizing its numerous cultural, social, economic, physical, and intellectual assets. Yet, our suffering is not the whole story; for in our positive, and negative, over-compensation for Primary Existential Trauma, we have produced the most Soulful, dynamic, and intrinsically influential, culture on Earth. Ours is the culture that inspires hope, empowers People in their Humanity, and imparts the Spirit of Freedom, all around the Globe. This Humanity uplifting honor notwithstanding, the root cause of Primary Existential Trauma (PET) is the past legalized dehumanization of Black Americans by  certain White Americans, and their religious, secular, and social, institutions. For over thirteen Generations, this Satanic assault on our Humanity has been a hindering factor in our spiritual, mental, physical, and physiological, experience.   Yet, by the Grace of God, we have strong medicine in our Folk Heritage.

Strong Medicine: The Jubalee Festival, The Spirituals, and The Blues

1) The Jubalee Festival: Black Americans must ritually remember, and celebrate, the mighty Act of God, who revealed His Hand with the Emancipation of our Ancestors from Chattel Slavery in America in 1865 CE. Our failure to do so as a matter of Religion, for over a century, is contributing to the massive breakdown in our community life. When we do this, and do it consistently, we can expect positive and lasting change. See the section The Jubalee Fellowship below for more discussion on this topic.

2) The Spirituals:  An essential part of this remembering is the impartation into the hearts, souls, and minds, of the People a genuine love, appreciation, and understanding, of the sacred folk songs that our Ancestors called Spirituals. If the American Negro Spirituals were such a unifying, healing, and empowering factor in the experience of our Ancestors who were held captive as Chattel Slaves, does it not stand to reason that there is something in them that we need in these troubled times?  Consider also that during the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, the American Negro Spirituals were revealed to the World as the most power Freedom Songs ever known anywhere on Earth.

Here (above) is the great Paul Robeson (1898-1976) singing the classic Spiritual, Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho.  Robeson was legendary for his majestic Bass Barritone voice.  He was also a true superman: an all-star football player, an actor, a singer, a liguist, a lawyer, a Civil Rights Activist, a World Goodwill Ambassador for American Negro Culture.

The American Negro Spirituals were a highly conceptualized musical, and theological, coping system that enabled multitudes of our Ancestors to bear the outrages of Chattel Slavery and sustain their sanity, and Humanity, in an absurd, humiliating, and dehumanizing, situation.

Here (above) is the legendary contralto Marian Anderson (1897-1993), singing The Crucifixion.  Marian Anderson is one of the most celebrated singers in American History.  In 1939, she was involved in a famous international controversy when the Daughters of the American Revolution refused her a permit to perform a concert for a racially integrated audience in Constituton Hall.  With the help of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt intervened on Marian Anderson's behalf and arranged for her to perform at the Lincoln Memorial. On April 9, 1939, Marian Anderson gave a brilliant open-air concert, in front of Abraham Lincoln's statue. This concert took place seventy-four years to-the-day after the Southern Confederacy surrendered to the Union Army to end the American Civil War on April 9, 1865.

The Blues

Another way that we can heal through remembering is by introducing a new Generation of Young Folk to the Blues.  Blues music helps meet the spiritual needs of our "secularly oriented" Children of God.  We have many of them amongst our Soul-Sick youth today.  Young People can be put on the path of spiritual healing   by the impartation of a love, and appreciation, for the Blues, and the narratives behind the artists and the music.  The musical term The Blues is related to the use of the same term to describe feelings of deep sadness.  Some of our Ancestors could not relate to the stories in the Bible and the Qur'an. The Blues Men, and Women, communicated the Deep Truth of the Faith in to them in terms that they could relate to.

Here (above)  is the late, great, Mississippi Blues Man, John Lee Hooker (1917-2001), with a message for our troubled Young People in the turbulent 1990s. This song is the title track of his 1995 album, Chill Out, with Carlos Santana.

The Spirituals and the Blues (1972) renown Theologian James Cone refers to the Blues as "Secular Spirituals."  Dr. Cone acknowledges the traditional healing power of the Blues for troubled Souls.  According to Dr. Cone, the Blues are sacred in their own way because they affirm the God-Given Humanity of people who are trying to survive the troubles of the World.  Blues Man John Lee Hooker affirms this great Truth with his song The Healer also from the Chill Out album.

Although few young Black Americans today appreciate their Blues Heritage, this music, which had its birthplace amongst the American Negro Captives of the Mississippi Delta, is healing people's Souls all around the globe.  Some of these Captives were certainly descended from the Djeli, or storyteller/musicians, of West Africa.  And, some of them were, no doubt, descended from Hebrew Priests who migrated to West Africa from Egypt.  Read my book Go Down, Moses! A Hebrew Mystery for more insight into the Egyptian-Hebrew presence amongst our captive Ancestors (Order Your Copy Here).

PRIMARY EXISTENTIAL TRAUMA (PET): The Unresolved Problem of the Legal Animalization of America's Chattel Slaves and Its Trans-Generational Impact On American Humanity

Primary Existential Trauma (PET) has its origin in the historic moral, and spiritual, crime of America’s legally demoting its people of African descent from the Human Species and reclassifying them as animals for the sake of profit. By so doing, White Americans were able to imagine, and rationalize, engaging in all manner of inhumane behavior toward Americans of African descent in every area of people activity, including Economics, Education, Entertainment, labor, Law, Politics, Religion, Sex, War, Healthcare, and Daily Social Interaction. The harmful psychological, and physiological, effects of the trauma on Black Americans that ensued have been passed on from generation-to-generation down to the present time.  Although the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution outlawed Chattel Slavery as a labor system, it did not address the devastating problem of the reclassification of the American Negro as an animal. The notion that Black Americans are mere animals still lingers on in America’s public imagination. This notion is at the heart of anti-Black thought, speech, and action, including "Negrophobia," mass media misrepresentation, racial prejudice, racial hatred, racial stereotypes, economic exclusion of Black Americans, environmental racism, job discrimination, housing discrimination, racial profiling, police brutality, civilian racial violence, etc. Because of America's past re-classification of people with African ancestry as animals, which remains uncorrected to this very day, the inertia of American culture, politics, and economy, tends toward the de-humanization of Black Americans.

The Unhumanization of White People and Post-Emancipation Oppression (PEO)
How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!...For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever." - Obadiah 6 & 10

It is impossible for a person, or a people, to deny the Humanity of another Person, or People, without compromising their own Humanity.  Hypocritical White American Slave interests legally, theologically, and academically, demoted Americans of African Descent from the Human Species and re-classified them as animals in order to be able to sleep with themselves better as they overcommitted their existence to the institutionalized, systematic, wrong-doing of people of African Ancestry. This was necessary; for they actually did start out with a conscience that would not easily let them live with what they were doing to Black People out of sheer greed.  They openly contradicted, The Holy Scriptures, Human Nature, Common Decency, Natural Law, and later the very principles on which they claimed to be founding The United States of America itself, by staking their fortune, and their future, on the labor system of Chattel Slavery.  By so-doing, they also overcommitted themselves to the economic, and intellectual suppression, of Free Blacks as well.  Because of this, even after Chattel Slavery was outlawed in 1865 CE, the cultural standard of White America, well into the 20th century, was arrogance, contempt, disdain, economic treachery, and the miscarriage of justice, against Americans of African Ancestry, on a good day, and merciless vigilante terrorism on a bad day.

Several years ago, when I was teaching African American History at the community college level, a number of my Caucasian students, where horrified to learn of early White American racial thinking and behavior.  Some of them asked of early White Americans, "What was wrong with their minds that made them think that it was okay to treat other Human Beings that way?"  The answer is that, when the ancestors of White America chose to base a whole economic, social, political, legal, cultural, academic, and theological, system on the denial of the Humanity of Americans of African Descent, and imposed Mandatory Reactionary Whiteness (MRW) on the European population, the result was the mass outbreak of a spiritual disease amongst  European Americans.  The White American Spiritual Disease (WASD) compromises the Humanity of many White Americans, causing them to be reptilian in nature because so much of their thought, speech and action, in relation to Americans of African Descent, in particular, emanates from the R-Complex or the Reptilian Brain.  This is the key to understanding the traditional White American capacity for merciless cruelty toward Black Americans, their general indifference to our suffering, and their reactionary contempt for us when we plead for relief from our suffering.

In the flash film of early 20th century lynching post cards on the Without Sanctuary link (above) you saw devastating images of the trauma that was inflicted on Black Americans who were lynched by mobs of White American males. The following video is a montage of scenes from John Singleton's film Rosewood (1997).  This is a remarkably realistic portrayal of White racial terrorism in the Segregated Jim Crow culture of early 20th century American South. This movie is based on the true story of the Rosewood Massacre, which occurred in Levy County, Florida, during the first week of January 1923. Rosewood was a self-sufficient American Negro town that was actually doing better than the neighboring White town of Sumner. The success of the Colored People of Rosewood was a cause of deep racial resentment amongst the Whites of Sumner.

They took advantage of an opportunity to express their resentment when a White Woman falsely claimed that she was attacked by a "nigger." A small mob of White Men from Sumner lynched a Black Man from Rosewood. When the men of Rosewood took up arms to defend their town against further lynchings, a great mob of Whites from several towns congregated to terrorize the people of Rosewood. Every structure in Rosewood was burned to the ground the surviving residents of Rosewood fled to the swamps to hide. Non of the residents ever returned to Rosewood. No Whites were ever held accountable by the Law for this murder spree that terrorized a community of peaceful, law-abiding, American citizens. The specter of a sudden outbreak of White racial terrorism was a fact of life for our people in the late 19th and early to mid-20th centuries. Its soul-sickening effect haunts many Black Americans to this very day at both the conscious, and sub-conscious, levels.

The Effect of of African Descent On Black Neighborhoods
"Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood." - Hosea 6:8
Below is a scene from the cinematic interpretation of Walter Mosley's 1997 novel Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned (1998). Laurence Fishbourne portrays Socrates Fortlow, a gruff ex-convict who lives in the rough inner-city of Los Angeles. He is a regular customer at Iula Brown's diner.  Socrates is an unemployed American Black Man with a violent, and murderous past, who is struggling with his Humanity, and trying to stay on the path of righteousness.  He survives by collecting cans on the street while he is applying for jobs.  He cannot find work because no one is willing to hire him.  He is trapped without resources in a merciless city that refuses him the opportunity to re-enter society and make a decent living even though he has paid his debt to society (Read The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander, which exposes this problem).  Isaiah Washington portrays Wilfred, an American Black Man, who is also an ex-convict  with a violent past; but, he has utterly compromised his Humanity for the sake of gaining access to resources.   He is a regular in Iula Brown's eatery, the front of which is styled like a broken-down school bus.  Perhaps this broken-down school bus motif is symbolic of the substandard inner-city schools that consistenly produce such troubled, prison-bound, Black Men, and leave resourceful, Black Women, struggling to survive on their own.   Natalie Cole portrays Iula Brown, a Black American Woman, and a modest entrepreneur, who is fending for herself in the tough economy of a rough Los Angeles community.  She is in love with Socrates Fortlow and has offered him a job working for her in her diner.  His pride in his Manhood, and his shame in his failure to find a job on his own, will not let him work for Iula Brown or express his love for her.

Being disdained, demonized, and depersonalized, as a People, has had a devastating effect on our ability to love, and be loved, to live, and let live, amongst each other.  The result is the progressive disintegration of relations between Black Men and Black Women in America, the disintegration of parental ties, the disintegration of brotherly love, the disintegration of civility and common decency in Black neighborhoods,  the disintegration of the economic infrastructure of Black communities, the dysfunctionality and subsequent ineffectiveness of Black institutions, the moral ambiguity (and failure) of our religious leaders, increasingly poor ethics amongst Black Politicians and Professionals, the abysmal lapse in the moral standards of our culture, and a monstrous rise in Black-on-Black crime and deadly violence.   These problems do not define Black America; they are simply Black America's shadow side.

The Power of Black American Overcompensation For Primary Existential Trauma
"O sing unto the LORD a new song: for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory." - Psalm98:1

As touching the affirmative aspect of Black America, it can be said, prophetically, that the stone that was rejected at the foundation of this country, and of this world order, has now become the cornerstone of the Global Culture.  No Black American performer  exemplifies this prophecy more than the late, great, Michael Jackson.  Here he is with the Jacksons performing Can You Feel It, a prophetic hit song from their 1981 album Triumph.  This song was written by Michael and his older brother Jackie.  Michael Jackson conceptualized and wrote this film. Note how Michael Jackson anticipates the young American Black Man as world-unifiers.

As the leaders of the Global Culture, and the standard-bearers in the Human Quest of Freedom, Black Americans are responsible to the people of the world. Despite being historically, and unjustly, disadvantaged, Black America registers excellence in every field of endeavor. This is an inspiration to people all around the Globe, especially oppressed people.  Black America is pregnant with potential.  Yet, our People's need for healing from Primary Existential Trauma (PET) hinders us from realizing our potential and giving birth to a righteous new World Civilization.

 THE JUBALEE FELLOWSHIP
How Celebrating Emancipation From Chattel Slavery
As An Ethno-Religious Holiday Can Bring Healing To Our Communities

It is time for the Descendants of the Survivors of American Chattel Slavery to be about the business of healing ourselves of Primary Existential Trauma (PET) and its evil effects.  I contend that Black America's failure to ritually remember, and celebrate, the Mighty Act of God in delivering our Ancestors from Chattel Slavery in 1865 CE is directly related to the violent, and spiritually unhealthy, state of so many of our communities today.  After the Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ, the impartation of the Holy Spirit at Pentecoste, and the Revelation of the Holy Qur'an to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the next Revelation of God in History was the Great Emancipation of America's Chattel Slaves in 1865 CE. The key to the healing and unification of Black America is our ritual remembrance, and celebration, of God's Mighty Act in History, as an Ethno-Religious Holiday. To this end, I offer, by inspiration, The Jubalee Fellowship: Great Emancipation Celebration Society.

In upcoming posts, I will discuss The Jubalee Fellowship, and The Jubalee Festival, in more detail, as an approach to solving the problem of Primary Existential Trauma (PET).   In the meantime, here is a four-point insight into the concept of The Jubalee Fellowship, which is an essential organizational aspect of The Holy Zawadi Nation.
  • The Jubalee Fellowship is The Holy Zawadi Nation's society of Grateful Survivors.
  • Instead of defining ourselves as victims of History, Society, and Politics, we define ourselves (correctly) as God's Historical, Social, and Political Agents.
  • We study and celebrate the Action of God in Our History.
  • We fellowship in the affirmation that God Is With Us in our Quest of Freedom.
  •
The spirit of Jubalee is healing for Black Americans. The most powerful recent example that I can point to is the mass outbreak of celebration that occurred when President Barack Obama's re-election victory was announced on the night of Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

All over the country, Black Americans of all ages spontaneously took to the streets by the thousands.  They danced and sang along to McFadden & Whitehead's triumphant 1979 hit Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now!  Some people are calling this song "The New Black National Anthem."  Enjoy...

THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL: SEVEN THINKING POINTS

Below are seven thinking points on The Jubalee Festival, The Holy Zawadi Nation's Two-Week Ethno-Religious Emancipation Holiday. Please reflect upon these carefully and discuss them with family and friends.

1. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL is Scripturally sound.  This Emancipation Holiday is an annual two-week Ethno-Religious celebration of the mighty Act of God who  intervened in our affairs and Delivered our Ancestors from the grip of Chattel Slavery in America.  In addition to its celebratory public dimension, which is discussed in these thinking points, the Emancipation Holiday has a non-public sacramental dimension that will be discussed in another context. This is in accordance with the Holy Bible, which requires us to remember the LORD’s act of bringing us out of slavery, for the sake of the spiritual health of our culture: "Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage" (Deuteronomy 6:12).

2. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL is historically relevant.  The annual Holiday is from December 6th-18th in accordance with the respective dates of the passing, and the proclamation, of the Thirteenth Amendment, which outlawed Chattel Slavery and effected the legal Emancipation of The American Negro.  Each day is dedicated to one of our Thirteen Generations in America, beginning with the first Generation (1619-1649) on December 6th and going to the thirteenth Generation (1979-2009) on December 18th.

3. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL maximizes the creativity and initiative of Black American individuals, families, institutions, and communities.   This two-week festival is a teaching-learning-preaching-praying-singing-dancing-drumming-storytelling-feasting-music-art-theatre-film-Fellowship-of-Freedom affair.  Imagine spiritually, culturally, and historically, relevant programs, activities, markets, video exhibitions, and art exhibits, all over the city for two weeks.  Some events will take place in public event venues, churches, schools, business, and people's homes.  People in the community will form Jubalee Fellowships and develop their own programs and presentations for the festival.

4. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL will be good public relations for Black America.  This festival will open the diverse cultural complex of Black America up to the community at-large and give us the opportunity to put our best face forward and continually reverse the effects of the anti-Black mass-media propaganda, and academic slander, that America, and the world, have been bombarded with for generations.

5. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL will enable more Black Americans to build bridges to other communities. This two-week Holiday will allow us to establish beneficial bonds with people, and institutions, from other communities, and ethnic groups. These new bonds will give us access to new, better, and more, resources that can be used for the good of our persons, families, communities, and institutions.

6. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL will promote good mental health. The unity of purpose in the Peoples’ creative, year-round, preparation for this annual Ethno-Religious Holiday, will help heal our communities from the effects of Primary Existential Trauma (PET).  By perpetually generating people-bonding, and nation-building, experiences that allow us to know the best of each other, preparation for the Holiday will genuinely increase the self-esteem of many Black Americans. This will be tremendously healing for our personal, and professional, relationships. It will also affirmatively influence civil relations.  The clarity, and goodwill, that are perpetually generated by this annual Holiday, and the expanded exposure of our businesses to people from other communities, will stimulate the economic growth, and infrastructural development, of our own communities.

7. THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL will promote stability, and security, and a better quality of life, in Black American neighborhoods.  As stated above, this annual Ethno-Religious Emancipation Holiday will give a growing number of Black Americans an affirmative sense of purpose and a genuine sense of self-esteem.  Subsequently, an ever-shrinking number of Black Americans will be spiritually handicapped by a sense of alienation, and self-hatred, in this positive, purposeful, new cultural environment. The impact of this on personal relations within our communities will, over time, be a dramatic reduction in tribalistic conflict.  The result of this is that Black American institutions, businesses, and organizations, will tend to be more functional and, therefore, more effectual.   Another result will be a great reduction in the urban cultural tendency towards Black-on-Black violence in general, and gang-related violence in particular.

"Soul Patrol Is The Best Gun Control."

By the Power of Love, The Jubalee Festival shall influence the culture of our Young Men in ways that inspire many of them to transcend the brutish, and backward, 'might makes right' mentality and embrace the noble 'Might For Right' honor code of our Forefathers who saved the Union, as Soldiers of God, in the American Civil War.  This is the Code of Christ's Crystal-3 Commandments. Men who live according to this Code have no need to be dominated by an occupying police force because they clearly walk in the Light; there is no ambiguity in their Person as to whether or not they come in the spirit of goodwill. They Patrol Their Own Souls; they try the spirit of a matter, reflecting in their heart; they search The Holy Scriptures for guidance; and they weigh the matter in the balance against their own conscience.  This fundamental transformation in the culture of our Young Men, in their way of being strong, and of perceiving each other as being, strong,  will translate into an exponential decline in the murder rate in Black American neighborhoods.  The result of this is that Black American neighborhoods will tend to be more friendly, secure, and stable; they will develop into real communities.  As the sense of friendliness, stability, and security, in Black American communities increases, they will be more prone to attract investors, businesses, customers, and jobs.  The more the resources flow into the Black American neighborhoods the more friendly, stable, and secure, the neighborhoods will become.  Black America's state of grace will be inclined to continue as long as the People remember, and give thanks, to the One from whom all blessings flow and as long as we govern ourselves wisely.  Governing ourselves wisely, will not be so difficult if we keep in the forefront of our minds the particular courage, and the strength, of our Forefathers who were honored to sacrifice their lives on the battlefields of the American Civil War in order to break the yoke of Chattel Slavery.  Black America must now re-learn the Old Time Religion of Freedom.
The old time religion was rooted in the strength of God's Mighty Act in delivering our Ancestors from Captivity.  Yet, we must understand that God wrought His work through us...He did not simply do it to us.  Our Ancestors had to take a stand for Freedom and confront the "grizzly bear" of Chattel Slavery in the American Civil War. This classic 1940s soundie film by The Jubalaires is the precursor to the rap video.   The Jubalaires had a special message of militancy for Black American Christian Men.  In this particular song, the Man of God is armed.  Note the photograph of Abraham Lincoln on the wall behind the Men. It is there to invoke the memory of the American Civil War and the spirit of the Forefathers who used their Might For Right and changed the course of History.  This song has a brilliant mathematical cipher.   Enjoy...

WHY HOLD THE JUBALEE FESTIVAL FROM DECEMBER 6th-18th?
“But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.” - Deuteronomy 4:20

Emancipation 1865

It is most fitting for us to celebrate the Great Emancipation during the month in which Chattel Slavery was outlawed. This event gives us a historical, and ritual, context in which to celebrate the miracle of our Emancipation and the Living God Whose Presence is manifest in our History. In the holy year of 1865 CE, our Ancestors celebrated the Great Emancipation from Chattel Slavery. This was wrought by blood, sweat, and fire, in the American Civil War, and made official, by writ of law, with the passing of the 13th Amendment, which outlawed Chattel Slavery, on December 6, 1865.  On December 18, 1865,  Secretary of State William H. Seward then declared The Thirteenth Amendment in a public proclamation. Our Ancestors celebrated as no other people had ever celebrated in all of History save the Israelites of old, who went out of captivity in 1445 BCE ‘with an high hand’ in the sight of all Egypt (Numbers 33:3). This was the Jubalee of Jubalees that was Prophesied 2, 500 years earlier by the Royal Prophet Zephaniah ben-Cushi in 635 BCE. Our joyful Ancestors thanked, and praised, The Lord for Revealing His Mighty Hand and Delivering them from the grip of Chattel Slavery with signal power.  By remembering God’s Act In History, we remember who we are.  When we remember who we are, we rember what we are supposed to do...and we do it.

K.I.N.S.M.E.N.
THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE HOLY ZAWADI NATION
"Let brotherly love continue." - Hebrews 13:1

The name of the K.I.N.S.M.E.N. flag is Degel Achavah Ahabah, which is Hebrew for 'Banner of the Brotherhood of Love.' The Hebrew letters around the inside of the eight-pointed star form the phrase 'Brotherhood of Love.' Hebrews 13:1 is the foundational Scripture of The Kinsmen of Zawadi Brotherhood.  Jefferey Osborne captures the spirit of K.I.N.S.M.E.N. in his 1991 hit If My Brother's In Trouble. Feel the spirit...

K.I.N.S.M.E.N.: The Brotherhood of The Holy Zawadi Nation shall establish a new standard for the American Black Man and for all Men on Earth. K.I.N.S.M.E.N. is the acronym for:

"The Kingdom is Now; the Signs are Manifest in the Emancipated Nation."

Brotherly Love between American Black Men is essential to the health of our families, the security of our communities, and the dignity of our quality of life. To this end, K.I.N.S.M.E.N. strive to be:
  1. KIND
  2. INTELLIGENT
  3. NURTURING
  4. STRONG
  5. MOTIVATED,
  6. EDUCATED and
  7. NOBLE
In our striving, we search the Scriptures and look to The Lord, as we seek to build upon our assets and strive to build upon the best of our fathers, Elders, and Ancestors, and learn from good Men of other cultures. We seek, in earnest, to learn from our own mistakes and from the mistakes of Men who have gone before us.  We seek to establish strong, loving, Patriarchal leadership that affirms Women and inspires, and encourages, Children. This, we hold, is the best way for us to be the best Men that we can be for the Women, and Children, of our communities.

Does the concept of K.I.N.S.M.E.N. resonate with you? Why or why not?  What are some of the things that you would like to see The Kinsmen of Zawadi do? Please indicate whether you are a Man or a Woman in your comments below.

The white square ring with the gold border represents the emotional radiance that exudes from the center of a spiritually healthy woman who loves herself from the inside out and who respects her body.  The blue outer-square, with the gold border,  symbolizes the healthy intellect that frames the spiritual core of a Zawadi Woman.  Finally, this icon represents a Zawadi Woman as having clearly defined boundaries.

4.    Q:   What characteristics are ideal for Zawadi Women?
  • Ideally, Zawadi Women are Spiritually Intelligent, Soufully Tenacious, Educated, & Radiant. They build upon the best of their mothers, and of themselves; and, they learn from  mistakes. They co-exist with the Kinsmen in peace, nurturing security, true dignity, and loving loyalty, as strong Matriarchal complements to the Kinsmen Patriarchate.

Rosalind Cash:  The Inspiration Behind the S.I.S.T.E.R. Icon (under construction)
"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies." - Proverbs 31:10

The concept of the Ruach H'Achoth (The Spirit of a Sister) icon is inspired by my late maternal second-cousin Rosalind Cash (1938-1995), a beautiful, and talented, stage and screen actress who was a standard-bearer for the dignity of Black American Womanhood.
Roslind Cash an actress who was legendary for not compromising her principles, or her personal dignity, in order to get ahead in Hollywood. As a result of her refusal to accept roles that degraded Black American Women, she struggled for years to find steady acting work.

Rosalind was an unusually beautiful, strong, and intelligent, Black American Woman who was deeply admired, and respected, for her positive portrayal of the Black American Woman on stage, film, and television.

Here she is (above) with a young Laurence Fishburne in Cornbread, Earl & Me.

Here she is (above) as a guest on the 1970s sitcom Good Times. This classic episode is titled, J.J. and the Older Woman.

Rosalind did not get a lot of screen acting roles, because she was particular about the way she portrayed the Black American Woman.  She made much less money than the Black actresses of her generation who were willing to compromise. Yet, The Lord still blessed Rosalind Cash to leave behind a respectable body of work that includes her historic-first portrayal of Mary, the Mother of Christ (above), in the short film The Second Coming, by Blair Underwood (1992).   Rosalind was the first Woman of African Descent to portray Mary, the Mother of Christ in a film.  If that is not prophetic, it is, at least, poetic justice.

After three decades of being shunned by Hollywood as "that Black actress who won't play ball," Rosalind won the hearts of people all across America, near the end of her life, with her powerful portrayal of the Matriarch Mae Ward, on the soap opera General Hospital, from 1994 to her death of cancer in 1995 (above).

The idea, and ideal, of S.I.S.T.E.R. were conceived in love, honor, and deep respect.
The song Black Butterfly, by Deniece Williams, expresses the inspiration that I feel when I  meditate on the dignity, and promise, of Black American Womanhood.  Enjoy...
